A massive well done to the boys who are now through to the Cumann na mBunscol Division 6 Hurling Finals! They played an amazing match against Bridgetown NS yesterday, beating them with a final score of 5.7 to 4.2. They will play against Boston Tubber next week. The date, time and venue will be confirmed by tomorrow afternoon. The Ballycar Boys are a fantastic team and they represented the school with dignity and pride. They are a credit to their families and we are so proud – Comhghairdeas, a bhuachaillí agus tá súil agam go n-éirí sibh arís sa chluiche ceannais!

Táim an-bhródúil as an iarracht a rinne na páistí le linn Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhí Siopa acú sa scoil le hearraí eagsúla ar díol. Scríobh na páistí litreacha chuig páistí eile I Co. na Mí. Táimid ag tnúth le litreacha a fháil an seachtain seo chugainn. Bhí Tráth na gCeist again agus bhíomar ag féachaint ar cláracha TG4. Rinne sibh an-obair, a pháistí!
I am very proud of the effort that the children made during Seachtain na Gaeilge. They ran a school shop with a variety of items for sale. The children wrote letters to children in Co. Meath and I hope we are looking forward to receiving ours next week. We had a table quiz today and we also watched programmes from TG4. Children, your work was fantastic! Well done to all the children who participated in the Intel Scientist Programme last term. The judges were very impressed with the high standard of projects and presentations from all of our entrants. A huge congratulations and well done to Jack Haverty, who reached the National Finals of the Intel Mini Scientist Competition, held last Friday in Trinity College, Dublin. We are all so very proud of Jack for representing our school and our county in the competition. Míle buíochas dó!
Engineers Week 2015
This week we are celebrating Engineers Week in Ballycar School. On Friday, Timmy Mulvihil and his team from Zimmer Orthopaedics met with the senior class about their role as an engineers. We are also busy working on Engineers Week Challenges as part of our Discover Primary Science Project. Check back soon to see our progress! On Thursday 12th February, we went to the Community Hall in Newmarket for a morning of sports training. We played basketball, tennis and hurling. We practiced our passing, catching, agility, cooperation and coordination skills. We had lunch in the playground at O'Regan park and then spent in the library in Newmarket. We are preparing for the Marian Keane basketball tournament and Cumann na mbunscol hurling matches. We also learned how to use the library as a resource for project research. The children were delighted to receive a visit from the County Champions, Newmarket Minor Hurling Team, last October. Well done to the lads on their success, winning the Minor B Trophy! We hope that, with dedication and training, we'll be as good as you someday! They beat O'Callaghan Mills in Tulla. The three players were Davy Gleeson, Owen Fitzgerald and captain Paudie Mcmahon.
On 16th October, the pupils and staff from Ballycar School had the opportunity to celebrate Maths Week in a very special way.
Thanks to the marvellous team at Milano’s Pizzeria Ennis, the children were given the opportunity to learn how to make and bake pizzas … and then taste the delicious dinners in the impressive restaurant! Not only were the children using practical maths skills while baking, they also had the chance to learn about the properties of the circle, fractions, ratio and proportion and use real life problem solving skills. Younger children counted and numbered the pizzas, and practiced putting the pizza-boxes in order, ready to be served! During Maths Week (13th – 17th October) Ballycar children also participated in the “Have You Got Maths Eyes?” Project, which encourages children to notice maths in their environment. They have captured photographs and designed posters that prompt mathematical thinking. The children band staff of Ballycar School would like to say a big “Thank You” to Martin and the team at Milanos for such a wonderful day! |
