The Role of the
Board of Management

  • It has responsibility for drawing up the school plan.
  • It appoints the Principal, the teachers and other staff.
  • It must ensure that the school fulfils its functions as set out in the Education Act 1998.
  • It has overall responsibility for the school’s finances. It is obliged to have comprehensive insurance cover for the school. The Board must pay all the bills and pay for any necessary building or maintenance works that need to be carried out on the school.

The monies received from the Department of Education and Science often does not go far enough to cover expenditure during the school year. The Board of Management needs to fundraise every year in order to raise money needed for necessary work.
